Cristiana Paul is a nutritionist, working as an independent researcher and consultant to doctors and nutritionists in the Los Angeles area.

Having studied nutrition all her life, starting as a personal interest at age 35 she earned a Master’s degree in Nutrition Science from California Polytechnical Institute, Pomona. However, this basic training in nutrition was just a beginning, kind of like learning the letters of the alphabet and it took a lot more studying in order to put the letters together in words and phrases.

Understanding human physiology and the ways diet and supplements can affect it, is quite a puzzle. For over 15 years she has been through a journey of learning which sometimes feels like she has just begun getting a deep grasp of this so very complex puzzle, which we call nutrition science. ‘We might as well call it the science of optimal life’ says Christiana.

Her passion is to contribute to the advancement of the nutrition science, which is evolving very rapidly and providing multiple modalities to support optimum human health, performance, reduce risk of disease, minimize the need for pharmaceutical interventions and optimize vitality in spite of the challenges that aging presents.

There is a lot you can do to reduce your risk of cancer and heal your body, however understanding the complexity of the body is a huge task. When embarking on a healing journey or focusing on creating optimal health its integral to be supported by someone who understands the complexities of not only nutrients working together, but our cultural heritage and what our body needs to balance our intricate system in the 21st century.

Some of us try to do maintenance or fix our own cars, but we all know that it is a gamble depending on how much mechanical knowledge we have. However, most of us understand that it’s best to use a qualified mechanic. The better you take care of your car with regular maintenance, proper tune-ups and use the highest quality oil, water and gasoline, the better and longer it will function with good performance.

Well, we should do nothing less for our bodies, actually a lot more since we cannot trade them in for new ones (not yet anyway).

The bottom line is that if you want to function optimally physically and mentally, reduce your risk of all avoidable diseases and live a highly functional long life, you have to optimize what goes in your body every day: the right kinds and amounts of foods distributed properly throughout the day. Cristiana Paul talks about the Paleolithic diet and how it ultimately comes down to choosing to spend your money on  nutrient rich quality foods.

Paleolithic hunting and gathering peoples ate primarily meat, fish, shellfish, leafy vegetables, fruit, nuts and insects in varying proportions.  However, there is little direct evidence of the relative proportions of plant and animal foods. According to some anthropologists and advocates of the modern Paleolithic diet, Paleolithic hunter-gatherers consumed a significant amount of meat and possibly obtained most of their food from hunting. Competing hypotheses suggest that Paleolithic humans may have consumed a plant-based diet in general,  or that hunting and gathering possibly contributed equally to their diet. One hypothesis is that carbohydrate tubers (plant underground storage organs) may have been eaten in high amounts by our pre-agricultural humans. The relative proportions of plant and animal foods in the diets of Paleolithic peoples probably varied between regions. For instance, hunter gatherers in tropical regions such as Africa probably consumed a plant-based diet, while populations in colder regions such as Northern Europe most likely obtained most of their food from meat.

Overall, Paleolithic peoples experienced less famine and malnutrition than the Neolithic farming tribes that followed them.  This was partly because Paleolithic hunter-gatherers had access to a wider variety of plants and other foods, which allowed them a more nutritious diet and a decreased risk of famine.  Many of the famines experienced by Neolithic (and some modern) farmers were caused or amplified by their dependence on a small number of crops. The greater amount of meat obtained by hunting big game animals in Paleolithic diets than in Mesolithic and Neolithic diets may have also allowed Paleolithic Hunter-gatherers to enjoy a more nutritious diet than both Epipaleolithic/Mesolithic hunter-gatherers and Neolithic agriculturalists. It is also unlikely that Paleolithic hunter-gatherers were affected by modern diseases of affluence such as Type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease, because they ate mostly lean meats and plants and frequently engaged in intense physical activity. The Paleolithic diet (also known as the paleodiet or the caveman diet) is a modern diet that seeks to eliminate these diseases of affluence from contemporary industrial society, by replicating the dietary habits of Paleolithic hunter-gatherers.

‘Variety Is The Spice of Life

There is a very, very tasty way to enjoy your diet. Cristiana Paul shares insight into how to meet the complex needs of the body through correct cooking methods including raw foodism and eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and good oils.

Raw foodism can include any diet of primarily unheated food, or food warmed to a temperature less than 40 °C (104 °F) to 46 °C (115 °F). The most popular raw food diet is a raw vegan diet, but other forms may include animal products and/or meat. Raw foodists can be divided between those that advocate raw veganism or vegetarianism, those that advocate a raw omnivorous diet, and those that advocate a 100% raw animal foods diet.

A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed, raw plant foods that have not been heated above 46 °C (115 °F). Raw vegans believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost much of their nutritional value and are less healthy or even harmful to the body. Typical foods include fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains and legumes.

Some raw vegans can be subdivided into fruitarians, juicearians, or sproutarians. Fruitarians eat primarily or exclusively fruits and nuts. Juicearians process their raw plant foods into juice. Sproutarians adhere to a diet consisting mainly of sprouted seeds.

Many foods in raw food diets are simple to prepare, such as fruits, salads, meat, and dairy. Other foods can require considerable advanced planning to prepare for eating. Rice and some other grains, for example, require sprouting or overnight soaking to become digestible. Many raw foodists believe it is best to soak nuts and seeds before eating them, to activate their enzymes, and deactivate enzyme inhibitors.[29] The amount of soak time varies for all nuts and seeds.

According to some cookbook authors, preparation of gourmet raw food recipes usually calls for a blender, food processor, juicer, and dehydrator. Depending on the recipe, some food (such as crackers, breads and cookies) may need to be dehydrated. These processes, which produce foods with the taste and texture of cooked food, are lengthy. Some raw foodists dispense with these recipes, feeling that there is no need to emulate the other nonraw diets or increase sales of kitchen appliances.

Chocolate Mousse for Cancer Patients

The beauty of this mousse is its ability to go from plain to fancy! You can wow them by creating mini mousse cups, serving it up in a fancy party glass or (my favorite) eating it right out of the blender! Whatever you decide, the amazing flavor has hints of grandma’s spices. This mousse will have them (and YOU) begging for more!

2    whole    avocados, medium in size, seeded, peeled and quartered
1/4    cup    raw almond milk
1    cup    organic Yacon Syrup
1/2    tsp    Himalayan pink salt
2    tsp    apple pie spice (mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg & allspice)
1    tsp    vanilla extract
1/2    cup    raw cacao powder
1    pint    BLUE-berries, to garnish
12    whole    mint sprigs, for garnish
1/4    cup    raw cacao nibs, to garnish (if desired)

Method

1)      Place almond milk, cacao powder, agave, salt, vanilla, apple pie spice and avocados into blender.
2)      Blend until creamy and smooth.
3)      Place mousse in a non-stick mini cupcake pan (removable bottoms make for an easy release!) or in whatever cup or glass you desire.
4)     If you’re making the small mousse mini-cups, you’ll want to evenly fill each cup and then press the mousse firmly down. Place pan in the freezer for 2 hours to set.
5)      If you’re placing it in a serving dish or glass, you can serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator before serving.
6)      Before serving, top with cacao nibs, Blueberries and mint leaves.

Inactive Time: 2 hours
Total Time: 2 hours and 5 minutes

You Are Deliberately POISONED To Make You OBEDIENT

During the 1990’s, research conducted by Harvard toxicologist Phillis Mullenix showed that fluoride in water may lead to lower IQ’s, and produced symptoms in rats strongly resembling attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Just days before her research was accepted for publication, Mullenix was fired as the head of toxicology at the Forsyth Dental Center in Boston. Then her application for a grant to continue her fluoride and central nervous system research was turned down by the US National Institute of Health (NIH), when an NIH panel told her that “fluoride does not have central nervous system effects”(Griffiths 1998).

Governments that add fluoride to drinking water supplies insist that it is safe, beneficial and necessary, however, scientific evidence shows that fluoride is not safe to ingest and areas that fluoridate their drinking water supplies have higher rates of cavities, cancer, dental fluorosis, osteoporosis and other health problems. Because of the push from the aluminum industry, pharmaceutical companies and weapons manufacturers, fluoride continues to be added to water supplies all over North America and due to recent legal actions against water companies that fluoridate drinking water supplies, precedent has been set that will make it impossible for suits to be filed against water suppliers that fluoridate. There is a growing resistance against adding toxic fluoride to our water supplies, but unfortunately, because fluoride has become “the lifeblood of the modern industrial economy”(Bryson 2004), there is too much money at stake for those who endorse water fluoridation .   • The US Public Health Service first endorsed fluoridation in 1950, before one single trial had been completed (McClure 1970)!
  • The chemicals used to fluoridate water in the US are not pharmaceutical grade. Instead, they come from the wet scrubbing systems of the superphosphate fertilizer industry. These chemicals (90% of which are sodium fluorosilicate and fluorosilicic acid), are classified hazardous wastes contaminated with various impurities. Recent testing by the National Sanitation Foundation suggest that the levels of arsenic in these chemicals are relatively high (up to 1.6 ppb after dilution into public water) and of potential concern (NSF 2000 and Wang 2000).
  • These hazardous wastes have not been tested comprehensively. The chemical usually tested in animal studies is pharmaceutical grade sodium fluoride, not industrial grade fluorosilicic acid. The assumption being made is that by the time this waste product has been diluted, all the fluorosilicic acid will have been converted into free fluoride ion, and the other toxics and radioactive isotopes will be so dilute that they will not cause any harm, even with lifetime exposure. These assumptions have not been examined carefully by scientists, independent of the fluoridation program.
  • The Union representing the scientists at US EPA headquarters in Washington DC is now on record as opposing water fluoridation (Hirzy 1999). According to the Union’s Senior Vice President, Dr. William Hirzy: “In summary, we hold that fluoridation is an unreasonable risk. That is, the toxicity of fluoride is so great and the purported benefits associated with it are so small – if there are any at all – that requiring every man, woman and child in America to ingest it borders on criminal behavior on the part of governments.”

Paul’s Conclusion

When it comes to controversies surrounding toxic chemicals, invested interests traditionally do their very best to discount animal studies and quibble with epidemiological findings. In the past, political pressures have led government agencies to drag their feet on regulating asbestos, benzene, DDT, PCBs, tetraethyl lead, tobacco and dioxins. With fluoridation we have had a fifty year delay. Unfortunately, because government officials have put so much of their credibility on the line defending fluoridation, and because of the huge liabilities waiting in the wings if they admit that fluoridation has caused an increase in hip fracture, arthritis, bone cancer, brain disorders or thyroid problems, it will be very difficult for them to speak honestly and openly about the issue. But they must, not only to protect millions of people from unnecessary harm, but to protect the notion that, at its core, public health policy must be based on sound science not political expediency. They have a tool with which to do this: it’s called the Precautionary Principle. Simply put, this says: if in doubt leave it out. This is what most European countries have done and their children’s teeth have not suffered, while their public’s trust has been strengthened.

It is like a question from a Kafka play. Just how much doubt is needed on just one of the health concerns identified above, to override a benefit, which when quantified in the largest survey ever conducted in the US, amounts to less than one tooth surface (out of 128) in a child’s mouth?

For those who would call for further studies, I say fine. Take the fluoride out of the water first and then conduct all the studies you want. This folly must end without further delay.

Oxygenation is usually more than doubled, as oxygen deficiency in the blood contributes to many degenerative diseases. The metabolism is also stimulated through the addition of thyroid, potassium and other supplements, and by avoiding heavy animal fats, excess protein, sodium and other toxins.

Degenerative diseases render the body increasingly unable to excrete waste materials adequately, commonly resulting in liver and kidney failure. To prevent this, the Gerson Therapy uses intensive detoxification to eliminate wastes, regenerate the liver, reactivate the immune system and restore the body’s essential defenses – enzyme, mineral and hormone systems. With generous, high-quality nutrition, increased oxygen availability, detoxification, and improved metabolism, the cells – and the body – can regenerate, become healthy and prevent future illness.

No treatment works for everyone, every time. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not giving you the facts. We know that when you have been diagnosed with a life-threatening ailment, choosing the best strategy for fighting your illness can be a bewildering task. Everyone claims to have either “the best treatment”, “the fastest cure”, or “the only therapy that works.” In most cases your trusted family physician only has knowledge of conventional treatments, and is either unaware of, or even hostile toward alternative options. No matter how many opinions you receive on how to treat your disease, you are going to make the final decision on what to do, and you must be comfortable with your decision. Choose a treatment that makes the most sense to you.

Most therapies, conventional or alternative treat only the individual symptoms while ignoring what is ultimately causing the disease. The reason the Gerson Therapy is effective with so many different ailments is because it restores the body’s incredible ability to heal itself. Rather than treating only the symptoms of a particular disease, the Gerson Therapy treats the cause of the disease itself. Although we feel the Gerson Therapy is the most comprehensive treatment for disease, we don’t claim it will cure everything or everyone.

Caution: Do not start the Gerson Therapy without referring to Charlotte Gerson’s Book, “Healing the Gerson Way”, or without the supervision of a Gerson Doctor if any of the following conditions apply:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Diabetes
  • Brain metastases
  • Severe kidney damage
  • Foreign bodies such as pacemakers, breast implants, steel plates or screws.

Patients must be able to eat, drink and eliminate normally.

The Gerson Therapy cannot be administered to organ transplant recipients.

Juicing is an essential component of the Gerson Therapy. To ensure reliable results, the Gerson patient will need to purchase an appropriate juicer. Dr. Gerson’s research indicates that cancer patients must have a two- stage juicer with a separate grinder and hydraulic press. One-step juicers generally do not produce the same quality of enzyme, mineral or micronutrient content, and some patients have failed to experience results simply by using the wrong juicer.

The Gerson diet is naturally high in vitamins, minerals, enzymes, micro-nutrients, extremely low in sodium and fats, and rich in fluids.

The following is a typical daily diet for a Gerson patient on the full therapy regimen:

  • Thirteen glasses of fresh, raw carrot/apple and green-leaf juices prepared hourly from fresh, organic fruits and vegetables.
  • Three full vegetarian meals, freshly prepared from organically grown fruits, vegetables and whole grains. A typical meal will include salad, cooked vegetables, baked potatoes, vegetable soup and juice.
  • Fresh fruit and fresh fruit dessert available at all hours for snacking, in addition to the regular diet.

All medications used in connection with the Gerson Therapy are classed as biologicals, materials of organic origin that are supplied in therapeutic amounts.

  • Potassium compound
  • Lugol’s solution
  • Vitamin B-12
  • Thyroid hormone
  • Injectable Crude Liver Extract
  • Pancreatic Enzymes
  • Enemas of coffee and/or chamomile

A very important part of the Gerson Therapy is frequent detoxification of the tissues and blood. This is accomplished through a variety of means, first and foremost through the use of coffee enemas.

The scientific basis for the use of coffee enemas is well documented, and can be obtained from the Gerson Institute. Patients report that the enemas decrease pain and hasten healing. Biologically, enzyme systems of the gut wall and liver are stimulated, and bile flow is increased. This has been shown to enhance the body’s ability to eliminate toxic residues from environmental, chemotherapeutic, and other sources.

Tumor and other diseased tissue is also more rapidly eliminated as it is broken down. Other means of detoxification include castor oil, used as an additional stimulant of bile flow and as another way to enhance the liver’s ability to filter blood. In addition, digestive enzymes serve to enhance absorption of nutrients as well as assist in the elimination of damaged tissue.

Patients must have a complete understanding of the Gerson Therapy so that they may effectively continue the regimen at home after leaving the treatment center. The following are examples of educational opportunities at a typical licensed Gerson facility:

  • Gerson-trained physicians and/or educators present lectures and instruction on healing reactions and medication uses.
  • Charlotte Gerson and/or other senior Gerson Institute staff members lecture on the theory and practice of the Gerson Therapy, scientific rationales and relevant research.
  • Instruction and demonstration of two-piece, press-type juicers, such as the Norwalk Juicer.
  • Videotapes of lectures by Charlotte Gerson, other Gerson Institute staff, and Gerson-trained physicians are available for viewing at any time.
  • Regular, individualized consultation with your Gerson physician on the specifics of your condition and any necessary modifications to the treatment. During this time, any specific questions you have may be addressed.
