Perhaps one of the greatest killers of the Twenty First Century is busy-ness. It destroys productivity and kills people. Our health, productivity and happiness are undermined by outdated ideas on work which have hung around since the beginning of the industrial revolution – ideas such as longer hours working means you are being more productive. Productivity isn’t measured by how many hours you’re putting in, but by what you’re getting out or ‘producing’. Lack of creativity and poor decisions due to fatigue or poor thinking can be very costly.

We are so busy in our lives that we spend only a few minutes each day on our health, which creates a state of deferred living. “I’ll get around to it later, tomorrow, one day”. This deferment of living puts off many good intentions, many life enhancing activities, to a future which may never eventuate. Or perhaps we work at a body and brain killing pace so we can have 4 weeks of holidays or, even worse, we defer everything until when we retire! Living has to be done now. Our health is something we take for granted. We often don’t worry about it until we no longer have it. However, when we get ill, we’re willing to do almost anything to get better. Well, maybe it’s time to do a little now to help avoid problems later. If you’re not happy or healthy now it won’t occur when you retire. It has to begin now!

My research shows me that busy-ness and lack of motivation are the two major factors stopping us from looking after our health and productivity. However, I believe that the lack of motivation also stems from the fact that we’re so busy we don’t see the forest for the trees. We’re so caught up in the details we don’t stand back to look at the broader picture; we don’t ask the important questions. The pace we’ve set ourselves carries us along, like the mouse on the treading wheel. The wheel spins faster and faster but doesn’t go anywhere. We are so caught up in being busy we don’t get time to just stop and think, to sort out what’s important in life. Those people who do often have a mid-life crisis or opt for a ‘sea change’.

We think we’ve taken charge of our lives in our busy-ness – in reality our lives are out of our control as we try to juggle the often conflicting pressures of work, financial commitments, family, friends and our perceptions of what we need to be achieving in order to be ‘successful’. Even our relaxation time is being busy, going here and doing this or that, even managing to catch up on a bit of work in our so called recreation time. We even wear the busy-ness badge boastfully on our chests to prove how good we are, ‘I’m just so busy’. Well, in my view it s not a badge of success, rather it’s a badge of self importance that’s slowly killing us. When people say to me that they are busy, I say ‘Sorry, hope you get over it (before it kills you)’. Busy-ness has not made anyone happy and the busy-ness level that most people maintain now is a distraction from reality.

“Television is just junk food for the senses and brain.”

We have lost the ability to stop. Whenever we do stop we feel that we have to fill the gaps with something. And no, television is not stopping. In fact it’s just junk food for the senses and brain. It feeds your senses negative messages and stimulates your brain just enough to keep you focussed. It portrays ridiculous stereotypes and lifestyles that sink into our subconscious and as a result we need to be busier to aspire to these examples of success. In a study of relationships, both males and females felt more inadequate after watching the stereotypical good looking characters on TV, and also now felt less satisfied with their partners.

As a consequence of ‘busy-ness’ the average Australian male now has his first heart attack or stroke at 56 and it is not uncommon now for busy people to have their first stroke at 35 or 40 years of age. One in 10 strokes occurs before the age of 40. The resultant 20 or more years lost, averaged over a lifetime, deprives that person of about 26% of their life. Or if you’re concerned more with work and productivity, it amounts to losing about 6 hours a day, every day of your life. The Australian female, who on average will live to about 82, has her first heart attack or stroke at around 64. She dies about 5 years too early and will have about 10 years of disability. This works out to losing about 18% of her life, which is 4.5 hours a day. It appears Monday morning and deadlines are the biggest instigators of these events but overall, chronic stress is more deadly than immediate stressful events, which just seem ‘top it off’, so to speak.

The three biggest killers in our society are in order; cancer, heart attack and stroke. The cancer rates in Australia continue to increase. Today we have three times the cancer rate of our grandfathers, despite the decreasing incidence and deaths from lung cancer (which is the result of lower smoking rates). The good news however, is the majority of cancers and cardiovascular disease, as well as many other health problems including mental and physical disability can be prevented using simple mechanisms. Assessing your lifestyle and taking preventative action is not just of benefit to your health – it’s also a very positive step for productivity. Do you get paid for your ability to make good decisions? Poor health reduces your focus, concentration and capacity to make good decisions. Poor health leads to fatigue and foggy thinking and as a result, increased irritability and annoyance – the grumpy boss syndrome – or is it the grumpy receptionist syndrome?

Poor health also leads to the vicious sleep cycle of sleep deprivation. Working late, too busy to go to bed at a reasonable hour, or even watching TV for relaxation before you go to sleep, are the first signs. You then need the alarm to wake you up a few minutes before you rush off to work, skipping breakfast or having a junk, processed cereal breakfast and a cup of coffee to wake you up. A few more cups of strong coffee to get you through the day on your artificial caffeine high, your adrenals working overtime because you feel stressed, which of course reduces your duration and depth of sleep so you need to wake up with an alarm blaring the next morning. And the cycle goes around and around.

Skipping breakfast is the worst thing you can do for your heart and brain. Your brain’s energy supplies are exhausted at around 9 am, so without breakfast your brain is functioning 20-40% less efficiently. Missing breakfast also tends to help you put weight on over a lifetime because you get so hungry later during the day that you crave a hit of sugar, because your body has gone into starvation mode.

The busy-ness factor also means you don’t have time to eat well, in fact, don’t have time to eat, so you eat on the run. Poor food, poorly chewed is more difficult to digest, increasing problems for your digestive system such as indigestion, bloating, gas and constipation. Such problems can even contribute to bowel cancer down the track.

The junk food you scoff down has plenty of calories but little nutrition, so your brain and body are functioning around 70%. And remember, you didn’t have breakfast so you’d already reduced your capacity to function efficiently by 20 – 40%. Much of your brain is made out of essential fatty acids, as are all the cell membranes in your body which are essential for getting all the nutrients in and all the toxic waste out of your cells.

Our diet is mostly deficient in the omega 3s, found in fish oils and some seed and nut oils. Without Omega 3s the structure of your brain resembles a house that is built out of mortar rather than bricks and mortar. Your brain uses around 20-25% of your body’s energy so it also needs a constant supply of not just energy, but also vitamins, antioxidants and minerals to function and prevent brain decay. The latest research shows that just one fish meal a week reduces your risk of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease by around 30%. Most of the processed foods we eat are devoid of nutrition, so to keep your brain optimum health you need to eat to foods which are naturally rich.

Then maybe you have some fried foods and meat (saturated fats) at the next business meeting. These tend to thicken the blood which slows down the nutrients and oxygen supply to the brain, and as a result, slows your thinking and memory and clogs your arteries with those nasty fatty deposits called plaque. One of the first signs of clogging arteries is poor thinking and memory – brain fog – as your brain can’t get all the nutrients it needs.

If you have a few soft drinks which are high in sugar or brain excitotoxins (artificial sweeteners) and have a high acid level, this will play havoc with your body, particularly your bones and teeth. Forget the fluoride debate – if you want to protect your teeth, give up soft drinks. The sugar will send you hyper for 15 minutes before it brings you to a sugar low another 15 minutes later. Sugar and sugary foods are great if you are about to do a triathlon (but even then I wouldn’t recommend white sugar), not if you’re sitting in your office.

At last! The day is through and it’s evening, time for a few drinks, alcohol, to help you unwind and relax. But aren’t a few drinks good for you? Well, it depends on who you believe and how you interpret the research. One glass for a woman and two for men does reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, particularly red wine. But the major benefits are when this is consumed with a meal or just after a meal. In addition, it is really only of benefit for males over 50 and females over 55. There are some advantages to being a bit older. Any more than one or two drinks however, and the benefits quickly become disadvantages.

The problem we face isn’t the one off drink or the occasional meal of junk food, but the accumulation of negative choices over months, years and a lifetime. All these ‘treats’ give us momentary satisfaction but don’t improve our lives or make us happier. We are so busy we have become a culture of immediate (yet momentary) satisfaction seekers. The little habits we create every day add up and the longer they go on, the harder they are to break. Ask anyone who smokes or the millions of people who have dieted and failed.

From the graph below you will see that you need to spend about two hours a day on your health. ‘Oh no’, I hear you cry, ‘I can’t do that, I don’t have time!’ Well in that case stop reading now, as this information will not benefit you and instead, head to the doctors for your fifteen minute visit and wait for the magic bullet to arrive. Or at least start praying for your health, because the research does show that at least praying may help. If you can make the time then it’s going to be the best investment you’ll ever make. For every two hours you give to yourself, you’ll get more productive time each day and between 12 – 20 hours of quality time added to your life. Probably the best return on an investment you’ll get anywhere.

Health isn’t a fifteen minute visit to your doctor. It’s a lifetime of looking after you. Real hope lies in what you are able and willing to do here and now for your own health. Our busy lives, our work and our health, and the health of our family, should not be mutually exclusive.

So what do you need to do now that you are still interested? Well you already know most of it, but here’s my package, the ‘Dingle DEAL’. For health and productivity you can’t just focus on one area – you need to look at Diet, Environment, Attitude and Lifestyle (the DEAL) and how they all interrelate.

If you really want a nutritious and health sustaining diet, forget the processed foods, pastries, pasta, over processed potatoes and white bread, sugar and salt and go for nuts, seeds, fruit, veges, beans and whole foods. Make sure that some are still raw – don’t cook everything. Reduce your coffee intake in the afternoon and increase your intake of tea if you like hot beverages. Despite what you read, tea is not a strong diuretic and can be consumed in copious amounts as it has an abundance of antioxidants. Just remember it has caffeine in it too, so don’t consume too much in the afternoon. Eat red meat once a week or less and cut down on dairy products. Milk is great as a condiment for my tea but is a relatively poor source of calcium for the body. Even the skinny milks increase the risk of heart attach and stroke. Eat fish, particularly the oily ones as much as you like and supplement with fish oils. Yes, at least 2 -4 capsules (1 gram each) a day.

Eat breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner but make sure they’re real foods. A healthy snack of nuts at 3 pm will make a big difference to your energy levels. I try to make this a main meal and have a light dinner. Haven’t you wondered why kids eat at this time (as do retirees who are no longer constrained by office hours)? This is our natural eating and energy cycle, rather than a big meal at 8 pm.

The Environment is our home, the sicker it is, the sicker and less productive we are. By doing simple things we can make a big difference, but we need to act now as the problems will take decades or even hundreds of years to fix. Leave the car home a few days each week (and buy a smaller car next time you need to trade it in). Cut your shower time in half and, for something different, grow your own veges. Quite a few vegetables can be grown successfully in pots if you don’t have space for a garden. Transporting food around the world is not environmentally sustainable. I specialize in silver beet and spinach as these are a great source of iron, calcium, magnesium and many other nutrients and anyone can grow them. Cut down on the chemicals you buy and bring into your home, as our research shows the more chemicals in your home the sicker you’ll be, and in particular, the health of your kids will be affected. Buying fewer chemicals not only reduces your health problems but also reduces the tonnes of chemicals going into the environment. Forget all the antibacterial cleaners – they don’t protect your health. Invest in fibre technology to clean the home and office and open your doors and windows as the air inside is 10 times more polluted than the air outside. Every little bit counts and it all starts with you.

For Attitude, identify your values – what’s important to you? This is probably the most fundamental and important thing you can do. Then develop your goals using the What, When, How and Why process, which is explained in my new book. Use cognitive reframing or Emotional Freedom Techniques, but forget the affirmations unless you take steps to actually put them into practice. Or you can just smile more, fake it till you make it. Just the act of smiling changes your attitude. Smiling or deep breathing if you’re feeling stressed relaxes your body and reduces stress. How simple is that? What’s even better is that if you smile, others will also smile, so it has a double benefit. In fact research has shown that if people are feeling happy before they attempt a challenging task, they perform better – so smile the next time you have to sort out a problem!

For Lifestyle you need to build in the Go and the Stop approach. Integrate your physical activity into your work day. Walk or cycle to the bus/train station or to work. Catch a bus once or twice a week, get out of your comfort zone, it’s squeezing you too tightly. I often recommend business clients to have some of their one-on-one meetings while walking. Just being in a different environment with more blood flowing through your brain will generate many more creative ideas. Get out of the office. A couple of people I work with now spend some time walking with their families instead of watching TV. Our body is designed for movement. Being fit means being able to engage in life to the full. Being unfit lowers your productivity, increases your suffering and simply reduces your chances of survival. Your physical activities should include some weight bearing exercise because it protects bone mass and prevents your muscles from deteriorating.

Learn to stop. The research on the benefits of meditation and yoga are overwhelming. There are many, many techniques, so try a few to find out what suits you. Just 10 minutes a day is a great way to start and you can then build this up at your own pace. Finally, on Lifestyle, learn to manage your energy. Identify when you have your energy highs and lows – this knowledge can reduce your arguments and mistakes dramatically. One of the most common energy lows is around 3 or 4 pm, which also happens to be the time when most diets are broken, the most chocolate is eaten and most arguments occur. Instead eat a healthy snack, go for a walk or just close the office door for 20 minutes to meditate.

May you live longer, be smarter and enjoy life. But remember only you can look after your health and it starts now, not tomorrow.

Studies concerning resveratrol and prostate cancer prevention have been conducted using animal models and cell lines in the laboratory. Steps are even being made towards an effective resveratrol prostate cancer treatment.

The most promising results have been seen using a multi-nutritional supplement that contains extracts from a variety of vegetables and foods. Practitioners of alternative medicine are using these new treatments on patients that have not responded well to conventional treatments.

I know personally of one man whose doctor recommended another round of chemotherapy, which would have brought him up to three rounds, total. Instead, he chose an alternative treatment that included dietary and lifestyle changes, as well as a nutrient “cocktail”. He is now cancer-free.

I am not suggesting that the studies concerning resveratrol and prostate cancer should encourage you to ignore your doctor’s suggestions or to run out and buy some cheap supplement off a drugstore shelf. Most supplements are not standardized. The amounts used in animal studies are equivalent to a dosage that far exceeds what is known to be safe.

In other words, if you are interested in a resveratrol prostate cancer “treatment”, I would recommend that you consult a doctor of natural or holistic medicine. If you are interested in resveratrol prostate cancer “prevention”, I would recommend a multi-nutritional supplement manufactured by a company that guarantees purity, potency and safety.

You see, there are a number of vegetable and plant extracts that are believed to protect the health of the prostate and help to prevent a variety of different types of cancer. Saw palmetto, lycopene, nettle root and zinc are examples of extracts that support prostate health. In addition, there are a group of nutrients that work in “synergy” with resveratrol to provide the greatest anti-cancer effects. These same anti-cancer affects can help protect the body from heart disease and other life-threatening diseases, in which chronic inflammation plays a role.

According to the studies concerning resveratrol and prostate cancer, one of the benefits is to inhibit the production of inflammatory molecules. In nature, there are hundreds of natural anti-inflammatories. Researchers have found that the synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs do not provide the same benefit.

I have been concerned, because pharmaceutical companies are developing a synthetic resveratrol prostate cancer treatment, which is also to be used to help control blood sugar levels in diabetes. Synthetic nutrients have never been as effective as the naturally occurring compounds. I believe that researchers will also find that this is true of synthetic resveratrol and prostate cancer treatment; the results will not be good. The reason that pharmaceutical companies set out to make a synthetic form of a naturally occurring substance is so that they can patent it and make more money.

Naturopathic and holistic practitioners might suggest resveratrol prostate cancer preventatives, but they are not likely to recommend prescription drugs of any kind. If there is a history of the disease in your family or if you are concerned for other reasons, you might want to learn more about resveratrol and prostate cancer, as well as the nutrients that work in synergy with it to provide the greatest benefits.

Breast cancer affects around 45,000 people in the UK each year. No one is sure exactly what causes this condition but it develops when cells in the breast start to multiply in a rapid and uncontrolled way. Although no one knows the exact cause there are number of factors that have been linked with prevention. In this article I will be discussing three tips that could help you prevent this nasty disease.

1) CONSUME LESS ALCOHOL:- A number of studies have suggested that drinking alcohol can increase your chances of getting this type of cancer. Cancer Research UK estimate that around 2,000 of the breast cancer cases reported in the UK each year are caused by alcohol. Multiple studies also suggest that the amount of alcohol consumed directly influences your likelihood of contracting this disease. Therefore, if you drink alcohol you are more at risk than a none drinker and if you are a heavy drinker then you are more at risk than a moderate drinker.

Now I am not suggesting that you completely alter your alcohol intake because there are other factors that influence breast cancer too. However, it could be a good idea to monitor your alcohol consumption for a week and see if there is anywhere you could make some cutbacks. Perhaps, instead of drinking a glass of wine with every evening meal you could alternate and have it every other night. Maybe instead of going for weekly drinks with friends you could go for a meal or to the cinema on alternate weeks. Small changes such as these could help you reduce your overall alcohol consumption.

2) EAT MORE HEALTHY FOODS:- A lot of researchers agree that a healthy diet is a key element of breast cancer prevention. In particular, trans fats have been linked with the development of this type of cancer. On the other hand fruits and vegetables are thought to lower your risk of contracting this disease because they contain cancer protective vitamins and phyto-chemicals.

If your diet contains a lot of processed or man made foods then you really need to cut down as these are normally loaded with trans fat. Also try to make sure you are eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Like with alcohol, you don’t have to make significant changes to your diet right away. Instead, try to substitute one of the processed foods in your diet with a piece of fruit or veg every week. Before you know it your overall diet will have improved for the better and this could make the difference between contracting this type of cancer and not.

3) DO MORE EXERCISE:- Exercise is believed to help prevent this type of cancer. A study from Dr Michael Leitzmann that was published in the Journal of Breast Cancer Research [1] suggests that vigorous activity such as running, competitive sports and intense dancing could reduce your risk of contracting this disease. However, less intense exercise did not have the same effect. Therefore, if your current lifestyle is relatively inactive try and do some intense exercise two or three times per week. If you are stuck for ideas jogging, sprinting, skipping and team sports are all good choices.

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the UK. However, by following the preventative tips discussed in this article you can hopefully avoid it.

It can be really confusing if you are debating a change in your health care needs and want to select or change to alternative medicine. How would you know which category of alternative medicine would be most beneficial and suit your requirements? You would need to be careful and understand just what your medical needs are, and then, you would in addition, need a working knowledge of the category and the kind of alternative medicine that would be most effective for your problem.

You will find there are quite a large range of categories of alternative medicine. Many of these different categories were formulated due to the fact that there is no conventional, or allopathic medicine (Western medicine is by and large an allopathic system) cure or treatment for lots of medical anomalies, or anything unusual. therefore many people are looking for something that will help them, maybe not cure them or at least not a complete cure, but a little bit of hope for their health problem. Even for diseases where a cure is sometimes attainable, alternative medicine is occasionally the more dependable option.

With a cancer patient, for instance, there are genuine studies in the research books where many cancer patients who have been through chemotherapy and radiation, and the caring oncologist has told their patient to go home and get all their affairs in order, because there was nothing more that could be done for them. Their are many patients, who have refused to just give up hope, and have turned to alternative medicine that included herbs and/or natural plant substances such as seeds, and in a short period of time, tests disclosed that the cancer was either hugely decreased in size, or had even in some cases completely disappeared. After hearing of testimonials like this, anyone would be silly not to want to attempt using any category of alternative medicine.

In addition, there are some people who would mistrust conventional medicine after an experience like this, and pass their opinions on to other people. Alternative medicine’s popularity is growing by leaps and bounds, possibly due in part to bad experiences with allopathic doctors and their role as healers in our society.

Obviously, it is not possible to know how many of the successes with alternative medicine were due not only to the fact that so many categories of alternative medicine are accessible for any illness or disease conceivable, but also as medical doctors and doctors of alternative medicines have actually seen many times, the power of the mind can achieve great healing. While alternative medicine has both the range and the ability to be able to heal, how much of its success is ascribable to the fact that its fans believed they would be made well so powerfully that a virtual miasma of hope came forth from their soul to join with the branches of alternative medicine and induced a healing?

We may never know how much power our minds have when it comes to alternative medicine, however, that alternate medicine does indeed work, and it has for numerous numbers of patients, that in itself is quite sufficient.

In this article we will continue our look at the stages of uterine cancer.

In stage III,the cancer reached an advanced phase but it is still located only in the pelvis. This stage has three subsections (A, B, C) which are based on where the cancer has spread to within the pelvis.

In IIIA, the cancer spreads toward the ovaries or cancer cells spread into the abdomen.

In the next sub-stage IIIB, the cancer spreads and affects the vaginal area

In the third sub-stage, the cancer has spread to the lymph glands.

At stage IV, which is the most advanced stage, the uterine cancer has spread from the lymph glands to other organs such as the bowels or bladder and is no longer confined to the uterus or pelvic region. There are two divisions to this stage.

In the first sub-stage, the cancer affects the bowel or the bladder. In the last sub-stage, IVB, the cancer has spread to other regions or organs of the body, such as the liver, lungs or bones.

The most important thing here is to try to catch the cancer when it is in its early stages, this way the treatment will be relatively straightforward. The longer it goes undetected and untreated, the more complex the diagnosis will be and the more invasive treatment may become.

The stage at which the cancer is diagnosed will also play a role in the treatment options that you and your doctor will have available to you. Depending on the stage of the uterine cancer, you may be able to have a combination of treatments, including conventional and complementary, or even some alternative treatments.

If you are considering alternative treatments, be sure to speak with your health care team as to any potential interactions between medications or potential side effects.

A couple of days back, the USFDA sent letters to several companies asking them to explain their claims about the efficacy of some alternative medicines in fighting cancer.

Though there still doesn’t exist a panacea for treating the disease, some promising reports recently published have raised hopes vis-a-vis the power of naturals in arresting the disease.

How wine could help?

Wine, or rather a constituent of the red wine called “resveratrol” could aid in cancer prevention. The ingredient is actually a part of red grapes from which the red wine is derived.

The researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center have found that it works by inhibiting abnormal cell growth. Abnormal cell growth is a prime characteristic of many forms of breast cancers. Consequently, the wine’s powers could be harnessed to possibly prevent breast cancers.

In fact “resveratrol” is also sold as a dietary supplement, but its effectiveness in suppressing abnormal cell growth has come to light only recently.

A natural substance to the rescue

Cancers can sometimes be quite problematic to treat, as they can stop responding to cancer drugs, or even become resistant to them. But a natural substance “argyrin” has been found to destroy the unwanted tumor cells. This discovery has been published in the journal “Cancer Cell,” and the research was conducted at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research.

While, research on naturals has shown promise, an advancement has been registered in conventional medicine as well. For instance a compound called “STF-62247″ discovered by the Stanford University researchers has been found to selectively damage cancer cells only, rather than target healthy cells too. Since cancer drugs can sometimes harm healthy cell too, this research published in the journal “Cancer Cell,” is perhaps just the first step towards developing effective cancer therapy with minimal side effects.

So till the time the science of cancer drugs with less side effects is perfected, the promise of naturals in treating cancer is welcome news for sure.

At present, experts estimate that one in two persons is likely to develop colon cancer. Despite breakthroughs in cancer research, the number of people who find themselves suffering from this dreaded disease is staggering. One type of cancer that is increasingly becoming common these days is colon cancer. This is second only to lung cancer as the leading cause of death among cancer sufferers in the US.

Although some may be genetically predisposed to developing this dreaded disease, there are actually things that you can do to minimize your risk of having colorectal cancer. Below are top six ways to prevent cancer from developing in the colon and rectal area:

Seek Doctor’s Advice

The buzzword when it comes to serious illnesses, including colon cancer, is early detection. A patient’s survival is higher if he or she found out about the disease in its early stages. Thus, if you think there is blood, whether fresh or not, in your stool, or if you are experiencing unexplainable weight loss and abdominal pains, then you should have yourself checked immediately.

Maintain A Healthy And Active Lifestyle

A study found that a person’s risk for colorectal cancer can be reduced by about 40% if he or she exercises regularly. You really do not have to go to the gym everyday to maintain your health; if you are not really a fan of the gym, you can always perform sports and other physical activities that interest you. Playing badminton, swimming, walking, jogging, hiking, dancing, and mountain climbing are good alternatives to exercise in the gym.

Quit Smoking

A number of studies have confirmed the connection between smoking and various illnesses and conditions. Emphysema, lung problems, heart disease and even colorectal cancer are just some of the serious diseases you might have if you continue to smoke or are a recipient of second-hand smoke.

According to research, tobacco is linked to the development or increase in size of polyps or growths that can be cancerous. Moreover, inhalation and swallowing of tobacco also brings carcinogenic substances not only to your lungs, but to your gut as well. You really will benefit nothing from smoking so it is best to ditch this vice as soon as possible.

Undergo Colon Cancer Screening

By the time you reach 40, you should include stool and digital rectal exam in your annual physical check up as a precautionary measure. By the time you reach 50, it is imperative that you get a colonoscopy every ten years. If you think you are at a high risk of having colon cancer, then have this exam every half a decade. The reason behind having yourself screened for colon cancer when you reach 50 is that over 90% of sufferers of colon cancer in the US are over 50 years old.

You should also ask your doctor about genetic counseling, especially if you have close blood relations who had colon cancer or other malignant growths.

Watch Your Weight

It seems that men and women who are obese are more likely to have this type of cancer than people who are of normal weight. Experts also believe that the kind of body you are in can also be an indication if you are predisposed to having this disease. Research has found that individuals with an apple-shaped body, where fat is concentrated in the waist area, are not only prone to heart conditions and diabetes, but also to colon cancer.

Be Mindful Of What You Eat

There are a lot of thin people who are not healthy. Thus, even if you are thin, there is no guarantee that you will not develop this serious illness. One of the best ways to maintain a healthy body is by eating right. Make sure that you consume at least nine servings of fruits and vegetables a week and drink plenty of water.

Alternative practitioners recommend colon cleansing as a way to cleanse your gut from the buildup of toxins and waste products. If you have been eating junk, processed, and fatty foods all your life, there is a big possibility that your intestines might not be in good shape. Detoxification can help clean deep-seated wastes in your colon. One product that can assist you with cleaning and restoring the health of your digestive tract is Colpurin. Go to http://www.colpurin.com/ for more details.

You have read the alarming statistics. Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. Old school methods like surgery, hormone treatments, radiation, and chemotherapy cause women great suffering without treating breast cancer. Women suffer through physical pain, financial devastation, degrading surgery, poor health, loss, depression, and ultimately poor results.

What alternatives cures are available for breast cancer? Follow 7 simple tips to cure breast cancer naturally.

Tip 1: Consume flaxseed oil daily.

Flaxseed oil, also known as linseed oil, can be taken as a vitamin, loose fibers, or in liquid form. When you purchase flax oil, make sure the bottle is labeled as a dietary supplement. You can add 1 to 2 tablespoons of flax oil to salad dressings, yogurt, smoothies, or simply drizzle it over steamed vegetables and cooked grains.

Canadian researchers gave women with breast cancer one muffin a day containing linseed oil and discovered that the women who ate the muffins reduced their cancer by over 42%. The linseed oil muffins appeared to be more effective than the radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

Flaxseed’s anti-cancer elements and dietary nutrients have been promoted since the 1950s. In addition to fighting breast cancer, flaxseed is beneficial for constipation, abdominal problems, breathing problems, sore throat, eczema, menstrual problems, and arthritis. The omega-3 fatty acid in flaxseed is believed to be the source that prevents breast cancer, lowers cholesterol levels, and boosts the immune system.

Tip 2: Take Vitamin D.

Scientists have promoted that Vitamin D, which comes naturally from the sun, dramatically reduces the chances of developing breast, ovarian, and colon cancer.

Tip 3: Oral chelation.

Oral chelation means taking natural substances orally to be absorbed into the body. Once absorbed, the natural substance grabs hold of toxic materials in your body, such as minerals, metals, and chemicals, then carries the toxins out of your body through urine and bowel movements.

Typical ingredients in chelation are amino acids, trace minerals, vitamins, and herbs such as taheebo extract, golden seal, buchu leaf, couch grass, and juniper berries. Chelation is cheap, natural, and can create spectacular results.

Tip 4: Eat fresh lemons.

Lemons prevent diseases and cancer. Lemons contain phytochemicals, which are neither vitamins nor minerals. Phytochemicals are extremely efficient in the prevention of diseases and cancer in the human body.

Tip 5: Reduce stress.

According to the law of attraction, disease cannot exist in the body of a healthy mind. Remove any destructive elements in the soul that lead to division, strife, suffering, disease, and sorrow. The physical world without is a reflection of the world within your mind. You are in control of your mind. Learn Tai Chi, Qi-Gong, yoga, or study a philosophy that teaches inner peace.

Tip 6: Increase oxygen in your body.

An underlying cause of cancer is low cellular oxygenation levels. Poor oxygenation comes from a buildup of toxins within and around cells, causing red blood cells to clump up, slowing down the bloodstream, and restricting flow into capillaries. Increasing oxygen into your body will lower your acidic level to alkaline. Cancer cells do not survive in a normal alkaline environment.

You can increase oxygen in your body by doing breathing exercises as explained in The Yogi Science of Breath.

Tip 7: Laugh frequently and often!

Dr. Prasanta Banerji and Dr. Pratip Banerji of the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation, Kolkata , India (PBHRF), have pioneered in evolving an unique system of treatment in Homeopathy, where specific medicines are administered for specific diseases. This is something different from Classical Homeopathy. Diseases are diagnosed using latest technologies, and medicines are prescribed accordingly.

Aptly named the Banerji Protocol of Treatment, this treatment procedure is the outcome of four decades of research activities. The doctors have a prestigious lineage in dispensing Homeopathy treatment for four generations. The social cause to help the needy always played an important role, which lead to the establishment of a charitable clinic in Kolkata, where around four hundred patients are treated daily.

The path breaking research initiatives of the doctors have lead towards safe and proven treatment of different varieties of malignant tumors, especially brain tumors, using a combination of Ruta graveolens and Calcaria Phosphorica 3X. Case studies and a Best Case Series have proven time and again, that the combination helps in killing cancer cells, while activating the growth of normal cells. Their research and the concurring results have established Homeopathy as a complete alternative solution for the treatment of malignant tumors and cancers.

The doctors have signed an agreement with the US-based National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicines (OCCAM), both being part of The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland. This agreement is the first ever tie up of its kind regarding the implementation of a Practice Outcomes Monitoring and Evaluations Systems Study (POMES) for lung cancer at the PBHRF’s clinic in Kolkata.

A different milestone was achieved when in June 2007, the duo presented a paper on Possible Use of Ultra-Diluted Medicines For Health Problems During Lunar Missions at the Rutgers Symposium on Lunar Settlements.

Dr. Prasanta Banerji and Dr. Pratip Banerji have given presentations at various international conferences in the US, Canada, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, and Argentina, among others. Papers have been published in various international medical journals, including the International Journal of Oncology.

Their research and its results have sparked the development of self-help groups of tumor and cancer patients in USA and Spain , who continue taking medication at the doctors’ instructions. The patients keep in touch with the doctors through e-mails, and have even formed user groups among themselves to monitor the recovery patterns. They are delivered medicines from the doctors’ office against nominal charges.

How you can help restore health to your dog using non-invasive methods and support a healthier level of care. Thirty years experience by a research physiologist has had better than 90% success with dogs, even older dogs with other health challenges.

Part I: Who I am and What I have discovered

I am a research physiologist. That means that I study how biological systems work, how they adapt to stress, and how they recover from illness and injuries.

I have studied abnormal growths for nearly thirty years and have had a high level of

success with dogs, horses and human beings. Because my methods are non-invasive

and non-pharmaceutical, they will not make a drug company, veterinarians or doctors rich.

When someone has a dog with cancer, they usually find me through friends of people who have used my methods successfully on other dogs.

I am using the Internet to get the information on the method out into the world because there are too many dogs who are needlessly suffering and too many owners who suffer because they don’t know how to help.

I have provided the information to more than forty people who had/have dogs with cancer. Almost all of these dogs were 7 years old or more and one was 18 years old when his owner began to use these methods. Most of the dogs were considered “garbage can” cases among traditional researchers. These are cases where the animal has multiple problems (diabetes, obesity, arthritis, blindness, etc) and would not qualify for testing experimental drugs or be viable candidates for surgery and radiation treatments.

The methods that I suggest require changes in the diet, bedding, and care of the dog. It takes more time than most owners have given to their pet in many years. About 1-2 hours every day. The benefits of this method are a significantly higher quality of life for the pet, a rejuvenation as if the animal were growing younger and more vital, and the comfort of seeing the pet happier and healthier with the prospect of more years of life.

There are many questions that come up as people use these methods with their dogs. There are variations in the environment, stress response of the dog, history of disease and injuries, length of time to heal from palpable tumors. That’s why I am initiating publication so we can organize the information and make it accessible to folks.

In 1977, I had an insight that excess heat systemically would cause abnormal growths to occur and had theorized that cancer was a “hot house” effect. That is, that an excess of systemic heat would distort cells and stimulate the rate of growth. As this excess fluctuated, the cells would accommodate the thermal stress and the system would change its thermal set points to make and then defend the condition of excess heat that caused tumors to grow and the system to progress to points of multiple growths (metastasis). If the excess heat could be reduced and the system allowed to operate under low-normal thermodynamic conditions, the abnormal growths would reabsorb.

I had done work with two kinds of mice, Mammary Tumor Virus (MTV) mice, and athymic mice that had been bred to lack a thymus and had no immune system. I had complete success in eliminating tumors from the MTV mice and in dramatically improving the immune competence of the athymic mice so that they could exist outside of sterile conditions without becoming ill or diseased.

One day I was giving my spade 12 year old female dog a bath and found that she had seven “lumps” on the mammary lines. I brought her to my vet and he diagnosed her as having cancer. I asked him to monitor her since there were few treatment options, and after checking her liver and kidney functions, he agreed. Had she been in renal or hepatic distress, he would have insisted on putting her down.

I worked out a series of protocols for cooling her system and normalizing the heat distribution patterns of her body. One month later, I returned with her to the veterinarian. She had only two tumors left and both of these were reduced in size. Six weeks later, I returned again, and she had no palpable tumors.

I went on to share my methods with thirty two people in the local area. All had success with eliminating tumors and restoring their animals to health.

I later had experience with another vet where two dogs were the initial study: one responded as the earlier dogs had and one did not. When I interviewed the second person, I found that she had not followed instructions because she “knew” her dog was going to die and just “wanted to make him happy”.

Since then, six more dogs have been assisted with the methods. One had a bone cancer that his owners decided was “unlikely” to change and were advised to put the dog down by their vet. The other five animals were greatly improved in overall health and had complete re-absorption of tumors. Two dogs are on the methods as of this writing.

In the following sections, I provide the methods that have been used to date. If your dog has some unusual needs or has multiple forms of degeneration and you need immediate help, you can email me and we can set up a telephone appointment. I must charge for such consultations and schedule them around my other work commitments.

Part II: Factors to Consider: Food, Water and Elimination

Food, treats, chewies and toys

Dogs love the food recommended in this method. They will often lick their empty bowls long after the food has been eaten. They will tend to be extremely territorial over this food, so separate feeding may be needed if there are other dogs/cats in the house.

I recommend that you only give your dog meat, fish and fowl. Raw or only lightly cooked. Your dog’s genetic history is that of a wolf. Your dog’s gene pool ate what they could hunt and when ill, various weeds and grasses. The weeds and grasses provide a plant based sodium.

You will need to purchase one pound of frozen or fresh meat/fish/fowl for each 50 pounds of body weight to feed each day. Lamb, turkey and salmon (canned) are recommended. Beef may have hormones and growth stimulants that are not found in the recommended foods.

To the meat add one tablespoon of organic coconut or corn oil (linoleic acid) and one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar per thirty pounds of weight . These substances ease elimination of toxins.

To this mixture add a quantity of deionized water (available at health food stores, Whole Foods and other markets with water machines or use Aqua Fina bottled water)

.

To determine how much deionized water, use the ratio of one ounce per pound of the dog’s weight. So a 30 pound dog will have 30 ounces (slightly less than one quart) of deionized water added to his food.

Mix the meat, oil, vinegar and water together to make a “gruel”. In cold climates or for dogs that have become emaciated, the gruel can be warmed.

If the dog has a poor appetite to start, divide the gruel into two or more portions and offer the dog several portions during the day.

If the dog’s coat/skin has become dry, add an additional one or two tablespoons of coconut oil.

If there is history of gum problems, tooth loss, arthritis or bone cancer supplement the gruel with 500 mg of silica (Alta Brand tablets or a liquid equivalent) per 50 pounds of body weight. Vegetal silica is a material which the animal’s body can convert into any form of calcium needed.

If open sores or skin lesions are present, add one Norweigan kelp tablet twice daily.

No other foods, please. The program is designed to return your dog’s body to normal physiological functioning. This means the elimination of manufactured food, human food and table scraps, all grains and soy products. It means eliminating undigestible material suc as raw hide chews and pigs ears.

It also means avoiding sweets like fruit and “kongs” containing frozen peanut butter and honey. Even those healthy vegetables that you need in your diet are not going to be part of your dog’s diet for some time.

Your dog’s ancestors thrived without the manufactured items. The “healthiness” of grains for dogs is like sugar for humans. The results are the same and the stress on their livers, gallbladders, pancreas and nervous systems impact sooner. What takes 20 years to damage a human takes two years in a dog.

Dogs will generally eat whatever you give them. Just because they eat something and want more does not mean that it is good for them.

Do you need to give them food to show love? Hold back some of the meat from the gruel and cook it up in some “meatballs” that you keep refrigerated or in the freezer.

There are other ways to show you love your dog.

Water

Change the dog’s water every day. Keep the bowl full or have more than one bowl. Use deionized water. If at first the dog does not recognize it (it has no odor) add a little tap water in.

Lower the lid on the toilet bowl and be sure that the outside area has no standing water for the dog to drink. Even rain water now brings down petrochemicals and other toxins. These stress and overheat the liver. If you bring your dog to a lake or a river or to the ocean, you have to wash the dog afterwards because of the toxic materials he may be exposed to.

Elimination

Dogs with cancer need to urinate three to five times more frequently than healthy dogs.

Their bodies form a caustic, irritating urine that irritates their bladders and causes the bladder sphincter to spasm.

If your dog does not have open access to a place he can urinate, be sure to walk him four or more times each day. Even if he has been able to hold his urine for long periods, it creates great stress on his body

As his health improves, he may have two to four bowel movements and some may be loose or watery. Do not reduce his water intake or the water portion of the gruel.

When his system was overheating, he became like a dried out plant. Water just runs through at first, but if watering continues, water can be held in a normal way.

The deionized water serves to cool and rehydrate as well as to dilute toxins being eliminated.

Do not worry about the deionized water causing mineral loss. Bone gets laid down when the system cools down or there is weight bearing activity. You are cooling him down and you will be playing with him to keep him an active dog.

Part III: Physical Cooling: Brushing, Bathing, Swimming and Rolls in the Snow

When an animal has cancer, the blood is overheated and has a low partial pressure of oxygen. This causes the hypothalamus to concentrate the low oxygen overheated blood in the internal organs and the brain. Circulation is now distorted and metabolic function is compromised.

(Boyle’s Law explains how gas solubility decreases with the heat in a fluid and increases as the fluid cools)

To restore normal circulation and cool the total body of the dog daily misting and brushing is required.

Have a natural bristle brush with bristles long enough to reach the skin. Have a one quart spray bottle filled with water. Have a towel underneath the dog or spray outside if weather permits.

If the dog has very long hair, have the dog’s hair trimmed to between one half and one inch long. Heavy coated dogs who are not living outside in a cool to cold environment are chronically overheated. Trim long haired dogs down all year long if you live in a temperate or warm climate.

At least once each day, lightly spray or “mist” the coat of the dog. Then brush beginning at the head and move down in the direction that the fur grows or falls. Brush the whole body of the dog until you feel waves of heat radiating from the dog’s body. You can spray again and repeat the process. Be sure the coat is thoroughly dry when you finish.

Your dog will generally love this. Do not focus on palpable tumors but treat them equally with normal tissue areas. If there are open sores or lesions, brush around them but include them in the general spraying. If there are multiple skin sores, use the deionized water which is sterile water in the spray bottle.

Bathing Your Dog

If your dog needs to be bathed (most do not if they are daily brushed), use a very simple shampoo such as castile, glycerine or baby shampoo. Do not “scrub” but just lather and rinse.

Dry with towels. Do not use a hair dryer. After the fur is just damp, you can brush as described above.

Swimming

If your dog is a swimmer, you can bring him to swim. Afterwards, towel dry him, then when you bring him home, bathe him. The ocean, lakes, rivers and streams may have pollutants, contaminants, bacteria and other debris that can cling to the dog’s fur. Later, the dog may clean himself and ingest this material. So bathe and then brush your pet.

Rolls In the Snow and Runs In the Rain

Many dogs love to romp in the snow and will roll in it or lie down in it and resist leaving it.

Cooling this way feels good and invigorates them. But like swimming, pollutants can be found in the snow and it is important to wipe them down, then rinse them off or fully bathe them when you get home.

Folks living in the country or in the mountains may be reluctant to do this, but the fact is that pollution is everywhere. Acid rain and air pollution come down even in remote areas. In rural areas, factories are often located where the environmental contamination is tolerated to allow for jobs. If you discover that there is an epidemic of cancer among farm animals and pets(or humans), you may want to address this with local agencies.

In some areas where there has been a long history of mining, radioactive materials have been brought to the surface and smelting has resulted in a higher level of radioactive contaminants in the air, water and soil. This means that local plants will contain a higher concentration of radioactive material even when grown organically.

If you live in an area where mining or processing occurs, grow your own flats of grass indoors so your pet can have access to the benefit of eating grass when he needs a laxative. Overheated, dehydrated conditions in a pet can cause very hard stools or actual constipation.

Part IV: Environmental Issues

If your pet has developed cancer, take an inventory of what has changed in your pet’s environment. This should include what has changed in your personal life as well.

Some possible causes of increased anxiety in a pet would include: jealousy over a new partner or a new pet; new carpeting or flooring; new appliances in the home; new heating or cooling system; new animals in the neighborhood; new neighbors with new sounds of people, animals or equipment; new cleaning chemicals being used in the home; change in access to people or rooms in the home; change of residents in the home (kids off to college, kids home less due to sports); change in grooming; longer time between dog walks; new dog sitter; longer stays in kennel.

Like people, dogs are sensitive to their environments and the beings who are there with them. Some dogs are so sensitive to their owners that when the owner experiences grief or loss the dog may become depressed or anxious. This can create changes in the dog’s behavior, eating patterns, behavior toward other pets and heightened anxiety about intruders, dogs, cats, squirrels or humans.

The key may be to ask yourself and your family about what has happened in the last 6 or 8 months and how did that impact your pet.

If you have moved to a new location at a distance from your previous home, there may be other environmental factors that will impact your animal sooner or later. Animals have been shown to exhibit health problems from environmental pollutants and toxins. In some areas, where radioactive materials are mined, the surroundings have a much higher level or radioactive material in the soil, water and plants that can be carcinogenic for pets. Local spraying of trees, grasses and lakes may leave toxic residue that your dog picks up on his coat and then ingests when he grooms himself.

A change in altitude can stress an animal’s body if they have not been slowly acclimated to the higher altitude. Driving a pet to a new high altitude home over a day or two is more likely to create successful adaption to this form of “stress” than a trip by plane. A change of altitude of 1500 feet or more triggers major physiological adjustments in the blood volume and bones. A change sufficient to decrease oxygen content of the blood can cause panic and chronic anxiety in the dog. Make these changes slowly so your animal can adapt with little stress.

Part V: Owner Issues

Harmony in the Home

Your pet is sensitive to the emotional atmosphere around him or her. Fighting, even the cold, silent kind, communicates itself to your pet and increases your pet’s anxiety. This results in stress to your pet’s kidneys, over stimulation of the adrenal glands, irritation and exhaustion.

Make peace with each other and the world for your pet’s sake or take the fight outside. A peaceful environment is best for you and for your pet.

Avoid Grieving About Your Pet

Your pet may have a life threatening form or state of cancer. You may be very upset by it. Your family and friends may start grieving when thinking of a future loss of your pet.

Your dog does not know this is what is happening. He only knows that your are upset, sad, and frightened. It makes him anxious. He wants you back to being his “alpha owner” and friend. Your grief may actually frighten him.

When you feel the grief coming up, go take a walk, without your pet. Go to a friend’s house and have a good cry.

If you lose it thinking that your dog might die, remember that all dogs go to heaven. Now, go home and take good, helpful care of your very much alive dog.

If you find that your dog is suffering or that the cancer was not found before extensive damage made recovery unlikely, bring your friend to your vet or a Humane Society and wish him well. He will love you forever.

Noise Pollution

Consider the use of headphones rather than blasting the stereo or the tv. Dogs have more sensitive hearing than humans, and avoiding noise pollution (no matter how much you love the band) avoids hurting your animal’s ears. Remember: pain is caused by and causes an inflammatory reaction. Your pet needs to cool down and heal.

Bladder Control

If your dog could go eight, ten or twelve hours without urinating, you may have thought there was no problem.

The problem is you. Healthy dogs need to be walked-and urinate–three or four times each day. An animal with cancer may need to urinate six to eight times each day because he may be eliminating a caustic urine that irritates his bladder sphincter.

Your pet will try to hold it until you walk him or let him out. If you are not home, he can’t get out himself. Holding the caustic urine is painful. It is also unhealthy in that it irritates the bladder and backs up and can cause kidney infections.

Have water bowls in several locations so that he will never be without water. This does not make him urinate more. It dilutes the urine so it is less irritating to his bladder.

Walk your dog often.

These procedures are beneficial to all dogs, but especially those with cancer and diseases associated with aging. Your care and attention is therapeutic and will extend the life of your pet. I often hear from veterinarians and owners that the effect of the program is a revitalization of the dogs. One doctor commented that the improvement in a 13 year old dog was as if the animal had grown five years younger.
